Portugal’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup are reaching their conclusion, with the national team scheduled to play their final friendly match on Wednesday, 10 June. The Seleção will host Nigeria at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, with the match kicking off at 20:45 BST.

A portion of the proceeds from the game will be donated to support individuals and businesses impacted by Storm Kristin, which caused severe damage across the region in late January.

Head coach Roberto Martínez is expected to have a full-strength squad available after missing five players in the 2-1 win against Chile at Estádio Nacional on Saturday.

The upcoming fixture will mark Martínez’s 40th game in charge of Portugal. Since taking over in 2023, the Spaniard has guided the team to 29 victories, four draws, and six defeats. Bruno Fernandes’s goal against Chile was the 100th scored under Martínez’s management.

Midfielder Matheus Nunes has recovered from a bout of gastroenteritis and participated in Portugal’s recovery training session on Sunday morning.

Later in the day, Paris Saint-Germain players Nuno Mendes, João Neves, Vitinha, and Gonçalo Ramos also trained, confirming that Martínez will have a complete squad available for Monday’s session.

Goalkeepers: Diogo Costa, José Sá, Rui Silva, Ricardo Velho
Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Matheus Nunes, Nélson Semedo, João Cancelo, Nuno Mendes, Gonçalo Inácio, Renato Veiga, Rúben Dias, Tomás Araújo
Midfielders: Rúben Neves, Samuel Costa, João Neves, Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva
Forwards: João Félix, Francisco Trincão, Francisco Conceição, Pedro Neto, Rafael Leão, Gonçalo Guedes, Gonçalo Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo

Nigeria finished just one point behind South Africa in their World Cup qualifying group, advancing to the second round on goal difference, with only a single goal separating them from Burkina Faso.

Victor Osimhen netted twice in extra time as the Super Eagles defeated Gabon 4-1 in the semi-finals. In the final, they faced DR Congo, drawing 1-1 after extra time before losing in a penalty shootout.

Under coach Éric Chelle, Nigeria began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign strongly, winning their first five matches. However, they were halted by hosts Morocco in the semi-finals, managing a 0-0 draw after extra time in Rabat before falling again on penalties.

Last week, Nigeria played out a 2-2 draw with Poland in a friendly in Warsaw, with goals from Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu.

Notably, Chelle’s squad will be without key forwards Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.

Goalkeepers: Francis Uzoho, Arthur Okonkwo, Maduka Okoye
Defenders: Zaidu Sanusi, Igoh Ogbu, Semi Ajayi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Emmanuel Fernandez, Calvin Bassey, Bright Osayi-Samuel
Midfielders: Abdullahi Bewene, Wilfred Ndidi, Philip Otele, Frank Onyeka, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Tochukwu Nnadi, Raphael Onyedika, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Alhassan Yusuf

Portugal and Nigeria have met only once before — a friendly match at Estádio José Alvalade in November 2022. On that occasion, Bruno Fernandes struck twice in the first half for Fernando Santos’s side, while substitutes Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário added late goals to seal a 4-0 win.

The upcoming fixture will take place at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 20:45 BST.
