Leeds United’s Tampa Bay Supporters Prepare for US Tour After 29-Year Gap

Leeds United’s Tampa Bay fan group is gearing up for the club’s return to the United States for pre-season action, marking 29 years since their previous visit. As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Daniel Farke’s team is scheduled to play against Wrexham at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on Saturday, 25 July.

Founder John Myers relocated to the US 22 years ago and, encouraged by his wife, launched a Facebook community six years back. The group has since expanded to approximately 320 members, with 100 to 150 residing locally. Supporters also hail from Sarasota, Miami, other regions across the US, and even the UK and Norway.

Between 15 and 60 fans typically gather to watch matches, generating a spirited atmosphere during early weekend mornings. Their regular meeting point is the Grand Central Brewhouse in St Petersburg, though they plan to reunite with an old landlord friend who operates an English-style pub — despite being a Manchester United fan.

That pub once showcased their flag, a signed Leeds shirt, and scarves, while serving trays of sausage rolls at half-time. The group met there for years and intends to return once the landlord completes his relocation.

In April, the group had the honour of hosting Leeds legend Stuart Dallas during a Premier League Mornings Live event, which also saw actor Matthew Lewis join a fan meetup. Even the pints came with the Leeds crest imprinted into the Guinness foam, adding to the festive mood.

The club has hinted at similar community engagement events during the upcoming US tour, giving distant supporters an opportunity to connect with the team. The group has been coordinating with Leeds to explore ideas and hopes for organised fan gatherings, with final details expected closer to the World Cup period.
