Feyenoord’s newly appointed Sporting Director, Dévy Rigaux, has determined that the club will not be continuing with Robin van Persie as head coach for the upcoming season. Rigaux, who previously worked with Club Brugge, had stated upon his arrival that he would conduct a complete review of the previous campaign. After concluding that assessment, he has decided that the Rotterdam-based club requires new leadership in the dugout. Consequently, after just over a year at the helm, former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Robin van Persie has been relieved of his duties.
Feyenoord managed to finish second in the Eredivisie this season, although their early performances had hinted at a possible title challenge. Under van Persie’s management, the team initially looked strong enough to compete with PSV Eindhoven for the championship. However, their form dipped as the season progressed, and they eventually fell well behind the leaders by the end of the campaign. Now, both Rigaux and the club’s management are focused on finding a new head coach to guide Feyenoord into the 2026/2027 season.
Despite his departure, van Persie is expected to remain an attractive coaching option for other Eredivisie clubs, given his respectable tenure at Heerenveen prior to joining Feyenoord.
