Saree is such an evergreen garment which suits every occasion. But when it comes to daytime events like kitty parties, office get-togethers, Sufi Sangeet, or a lunch date, the biggest fear is that we might look ‘overdressed’. In broad daylight, heavy, shiny sarees and loud make-up often start stinging the eyes. Then how to carry a saree in a daytime function in such a way that you look elegant, graceful and absolutely effortless? Let us know some such easy and practical tips, which will give you a perfect and sober look during the day’s events.

1. Choosing the right fabric is most important

During the day, keep heavy silk, Banarasi or gota-leaf sarees in the wardrobe. Light and breathable fabrics look most beautiful in daylight. First of all, you can select cotton and linen fabrics. This is the best choice for daytime functions. These not only give you a classy look, but are also very comfortable. Apart from this, if you want to wear something light and flowy, then choose chiffon or georgette sarees in pastel shades.

Organza: Organza sarees are quite in trend these days. Floral printed organza saree gives a very fresh look during the day.

2. Play of colors: pastel and neutral shades

While dark and bright colors look good in night functions, during the day light and calm colors i.e. pastel colors spread magic. In this you can choose mint green, powder blue, baby pink, lavender, peach, off-white, and cream color. Talking about prints, instead of big heavy designs, sarees with small floral prints, geometric patterns or simple plain sarees with borders are perfect for the day.

3. Experiment with blouse

Even a simple saree can be given a very modern and sober look with the help of a trendy blouse. To avoid looking overdressed, keep the blouse a little casual or summer-vibe.

Shirt or crop top: Pair your saree with a neutral colored shirt or a stylish crop top instead of a traditional blouse. This will give you a very cool and Indo-western look.

Boat neck or collared blouses: Blouses with boat neck, halter neck or elbow-length sleeves look very decent and professional with linen or cotton sarees.

4. Wear less jewelery in daylight

Do not make the mistake of sleeping during the day or wearing heavy Kundan sets. The more minimal your jewelery is, the more your look will shine. For this you can choose oxidised or silver jewellery. Silver or oxidised jewelery (like large earrings or a statement neckpiece) looks amazing with cotton and linen sarees. Remember, if you are wearing big earrings, leave the neck empty. As another option, you can also use pearl jewellery. A set of pearls or small pearl studs give a very royal and elegant look during the day.

5. Keep makeup and hairstyle natural

Heavy foundation or dark eye makeup can look too loud in daylight, so keep your look natural and fresh. Go for the ‘no-makeup’ look. A light BB cream or sunscreen, a little blush, kajal and nude or pastel shade lipstick is enough for the day. Avoid pinning your hair too much or doing heavy curls. You can go for a neat ponytail, a loose date braid, or leave your hair open. Making a simple bun and adding real mogra gajra to it is also a great option.

6. Footwear and Accessories

Choosing the right footwear and bag is equally important to complete your look. Kolhapuri slippers, mojaris, juttis or block heels go best with daytime looks. Avoid wearing pencil heels, as they may look a little too formal in a casual daytime environment. Carry a nice jute tote bag or potli bag for day functions and of course, don’t forget to add a pair of stylish sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun, it will add instant ‘swag’ to your look.
