Anthony Gordon has spoken about his personal discussions with Manchester United star Marcus Rashford after completing his permanent move to Barcelona.
Rashford spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona, where he enjoyed a successful spell, registering 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.
His performances were instrumental in helping Barcelona retain their La Liga title. However, the club has been hesitant about turning his loan into a permanent deal.
Hansi Flick’s side have the option to sign Rashford for £26 million but are reportedly keen to either negotiate a reduced fee or secure another loan agreement. Manchester United, however, have made it clear that they are not open to renegotiation and would rather bring Rashford back and consider selling him elsewhere.
The English forward’s wish to continue in Catalonia took another hit when Barcelona signed Anthony Gordon for £70 million last month. This move has raised doubts about Rashford’s future with the Spanish champions, as his place in the team now appears uncertain.
Despite this, Gordon revealed that he shares a positive relationship with Rashford, who has been supportive since his arrival at Camp Nou. Both players are currently part of the England squad, where they are also competing for the left-wing position ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
Speaking to talkSPORT after England’s 1-0 victory over New Zealand, Gordon said, “He was just telling me how good the lads are there, the team spirit they have, which I’d already heard from people at Barca.”
He added, “I’m really looking forward to joining them. He also told me a lot about the city and places to live.”
“He’s a great guy, very caring, and was just giving me some useful information,” Gordon continued.
Gordon, who was also reportedly on Manchester United’s radar, reflected on his transfer to Barcelona by saying, “It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks, but probably the best two weeks of my life for me and my family.”
“It’s amazing because I told them from a young age that I would reach this level. They’ve been congratulating me, and it’s been really emotional.”
He concluded, “I’m not content just to play for Barcelona. I want to win everything. For me, this is where my career truly begins. I’ve reached the point I always aimed for, and now it’s time to push to the next level.”
England will next face Costa Rica in a friendly match on Wednesday as they continue their preparations for the World Cup.
