The Australian batter had to endure various disciplinary issues throughout IPL 2026 and received a total of five demerit points from three different instances. As a consequence he will miss an automatic one match suspension at the beginning of IPL 2027.
The most serious one happened during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans. David was fined 50 percent of his match fee and was handed two demerit points after aggressively throwing an ice bag in the direction of on-field umpire Nitin Menon after a controversial DRS review.
The BCCI later declared him guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct that pertains to the act of throwing objects in an inappropriate and unsafe manner in direction of any player, official, or any other person.
Earlier in the season during a game against Mumbai Indians David was fined 25 percent of his match fee and received a demerit point for allegedly disregarding the umpire's instructions during a ball change.
In another incident against Mumbai Indians television cameras caught David showing an abusive gesture from the dugout after RCB secured victory. This earned him a 30 percent fine on match fee along with two demerit points.
Social media users also saw pictures and videos of David seemingly smoking during RCB's victory celebration and he also hogged the limelight after jokingly trying to kick BCCI's AI robotic camera, Champak during the team's winning celebrations.
Despite all the controversies and issues, RCB had a phenomenal IPL 2026 season. Virat Kohli displayed a masterclass with his match-winning unbeaten 75 off 42 balls in the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. While chasing a score of 156 Kohli guided the team comfortably towards the victory and marked the fastest half-century of his IPL career while batting with an injury.
Earlier RCB bowlers had restricted Gujarat Titans to a mere 155/8, with Rasikh Salam Dar taking three while Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked two wickets each. With this victory RCB confirmed their second successive IPL title and put another successful chapter in their books.
