In this Test match against Afghanistan, the host Indian team, after winning the toss and coming to bat first, had scored 368 runs at the loss of 3 wickets till the stumps on the first day. Captain Shubhman Gill returned unbeaten after scoring 103 (143) and Rishabh Pant 50 (70). After which good bowling was seen from Afghanistan on the second day. Mohammad Salim Safi alone took 6 wickets for the visiting team. For India, KL Rahul scored 100 and Shubman Gill scored 126 runs in the first innings. Sai Sudarshan and Rishabh Pant scored 81-81 runs. Washington Sundar remained not out on 52 and Kuldeep Yadav scored 9 runs.

Afghanistan had to go that short time before the tea break without losing any wickets, but Malik lost his wicket while trying to counterattack. He became the first victim of Manav Suthar’s Test career. Siraj and Prasidh started with the new ball. The pitch was not providing much help, just Siraj hit the outside-edge of Atal’s bat with his ‘wobble seam’ balls.

Gill handed the ball to debutant Manav Suthar and he did wonders by taking the wicket of Malik. The first three balls he bowled spun heavily, leading Malik to decide to play the sweep shot. If these four balls are any indication of the game ahead, it is going to be difficult for Afghanistan’s batsmen as India have two more quality spinners. There will be a tough test of spin for the visiting team in the session after the tea break.
