Leeds United’s long-anticipated comeback to the United States has ignited enthusiasm among Tampa Bay fans, who are preparing for a historic summer. The local Supporters' Group is getting ready to welcome the team back after a 29-year gap.

As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Daniel Farke’s squad is set to face Wrexham at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Saturday, 25 July. The Leeds United Tampa Bay Supporters' Group has that date marked as the club’s first appearance in the U.S. since 1997.

Group organiser John Myers, originally from Goole and a Leeds University alumnus, relocated to the United States 22 years ago. About six years back, after his son’s weekend football commitments ended and with encouragement from his wife, he created a Facebook community that started with a few members and has now expanded into the hundreds.

The group’s membership currently stands at around 320, including 100–150 local members and others from Sarasota, Miami, and beyond, along with supporters based in the UK and Norway. There’s also a French fan who once studied in Leeds, and a growing number of American members who have become regular participants.

Between 15 and 60 supporters typically gather for matches, currently hosted at the Grand Central Brewhouse in St. Petersburg. The group plans to reunite with a friendly local pub owner once he completes his relocation.

Previously, they met at his English-style pub, despite his allegiance to Manchester United. Their Leeds flag, a signed shirt, and scarves were displayed proudly, and sausage rolls were served at halftime. The warm hospitality always surpassed the football rivalry.

In April, Leeds legend Stuart Dallas and actor Matthew Lewis led a Premier League Mornings Live fan event in Tampa, featuring Guinness pints topped with Leeds crests. Leeds United have hinted at hosting similar fan engagements during their upcoming tour, and with the World Cup on the horizon, this summer could prove unforgettable for the supporters.

Myers mentioned that the club is still finalising its plans and intends to collaborate with the Supporters' Group to organise special events for visiting fans. Specific details are yet to be confirmed, but he hopes for something similar to the memorable April gathering.
