Reports from Spain suggest that Bernardo Silva has confirmed he is considering a move to Barcelona.
Barcelona are planning to bring in a new midfielder in the coming weeks as part of their efforts to replace Marc Casado.
Among the potential candidates, the favourite for both Hansi Flick and Deco is Bernardo Silva, who will soon be available as a free agent.
Silva has been a long-term target for Barcelona, dating back to Xavi Hernandez’s tenure as manager.
With his contract at Manchester City set to expire at the end of this month, the timing now seems ideal for the Catalan giants to secure a player expected to play a key role in Flick’s squad.
His versatility, being able to operate both in midfield and on the right flank as backup to Lamine Yamal, makes him an attractive option.
Pep Guardiola, Silva’s former boss at Manchester City, has openly backed Barcelona’s pursuit of the 31-year-old, who recently discussed his future.
According to reports, Silva confirmed that Catalonia is one of the destinations he is currently considering.
However, no final decision will be made until after the 2026 World Cup concludes.
“Barcelona is one of the options I have, but I haven’t made my decision yet,” he said.
“There are many options, and I respect all clubs. In the end, I’ll try to find a team that truly values me. That’s very important, and when I make my decision, they will know.”
Barcelona Facing Competition from La Liga Rivals
While Barcelona remains a strong contender for Silva’s signature, he has several elite La Liga clubs vying for his services.
Atletico Madrid are also reported to be working on a deal to sign Bernardo Silva.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, reports have emerged that Jose Mourinho is keen to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu should he take charge of Real Madrid.
If Silva is to join Real Madrid, it will depend on Florentino Perez winning the upcoming presidential election this weekend.
Julian Alvarez Open to Barcelona Move, but Atletico Demand €150 Million
Despite being under contract until 2030 with a release clause close to €500 million, the situation surrounding Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid has grown tense following the end of the 2025/26 season.
Atletico’s management have been pushing to extend the Argentine striker’s contract amid strong interest from Barcelona and PSG.
They believed the renewal was under control, although months have passed without any response from the player’s camp.
However, Alvarez’s stance has now shifted significantly.
Julian Alvarez Open to Departure
Alvarez’s main priority is to join a more ambitious project that can consistently compete for major titles — even if it means giving up his status as an undisputed star at Atletico.
Barcelona are currently the club most strongly linked with his intentions.
Internally, Atletico’s sporting director Mateu Alemany is already aware of Alvarez’s desire to move to a more prestigious sporting project.
While rumours have suggested tension between Alvarez and Diego Simeone, sources within the Rojiblancos deny such claims.
Simeone, who played a vital role in bringing Alvarez from Manchester City, has supported him through both successful and challenging periods.
However, the striker’s ambition to compete at the highest level and win trophies, coupled with Barcelona’s interest, is driving his wish to leave.
Atletico Holding Their Ground
Despite the growing uncertainty, Atletico’s stance remains firm.
The club insists Alvarez will only be allowed to leave if a substantial transfer fee is paid, setting a minimum valuation of around €150 million.
Behind the scenes, however, there are divided opinions — some argue for maintaining a strict line, while others see an opportunity to cash in and reinforce the squad under Alemany’s sporting project.
One thing is clear: Atletico will not make his departure easy, especially for Barcelona.
There are doubts within the club about Barca’s financial ability to meet their demands, even if alternative arrangements such as player swaps are explored.
Ferran Torres has been mentioned internally as a possible bargaining chip, though no concrete developments have occurred.
At this stage, Atletico are not ruling out any scenario, but they remain adamant that Alvarez will not be allowed to leave for a cut-price fee — and certainly not for free.
Barcelona Not Interested in Juventus Full-Back Despite Reports
Barcelona are targeting several new signings this summer, with Julian Alvarez strongly linked to a move to Camp Nou.
In addition to a new forward, the Catalans are also keen to strengthen their defence at left-back, especially given Alejandro Balde’s inconsistent performances.
Although Joao Cancelo is expected to sign permanently, reports have also connected Barcelona with Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso.
Barcelona Deny Interest in Cambiaso
According to recent reports, Cambiaso is currently not being considered as a target by Barcelona’s sporting management, despite widespread speculation.
The 26-year-old Italian international is under contract with Juventus until 2029 and has a release clause of around €50 million, having joined from Genoa for €15.5 million in 2022.
This isn’t the first time his name has been linked with Barcelona, with similar rumours circulating as recently as March, but the club’s position remains unchanged.
Cancelo Remains the Priority
Barcelona’s first-choice option for the left-back role remains Joao Cancelo, whose loan from Al-Hilal expires on June 30.
The club intends to sign the 32-year-old Portuguese international permanently, and negotiations are ongoing given that he has one year left on his contract in Saudi Arabia.
Another left-back option that has since faded from consideration is Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown.
The 22-year-old German has attracted strong interest from Arsenal and Bayern Munich, with the Gunners reportedly leading the race — effectively ending Barcelona’s pursuit.
Anthony Gordon Completes Move from Newcastle United to Barcelona
Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon has completed his transfer to Barcelona after signing a five-year contract, the Catalan club has announced.
Barcelona did not disclose the transfer fee when confirming the 25-year-old’s arrival.
However, reports suggest the deal is worth €69.3 million, giving the Magpies a significant profit on the €45 million they paid Everton for his services in January 2023.
A statement on Barcelona’s official website read: “FC Barcelona and Newcastle United have reached an agreement for Anthony Gordon to join the Blaugrana for the next five seasons.”
Bayern Munich were among several clubs interested in Gordon, but it was the Spanish champions — who faced him three times in last season’s Champions League — who secured the deal.
The forward, who still had four years remaining on his long-term contract with Newcastle signed in 2024, will now turn his focus to England’s World Cup campaign before beginning an exciting new chapter in his career.
Newcastle had invested heavily in Gordon as head coach Eddie Howe sought to bring fresh energy to the attack. His partnership with Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool in a controversial move last summer, was a key factor in the club’s resurgence.
Gordon played a pivotal role as the Magpies ended their 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy in last season’s Carabao Cup final and secured a top-two finish in the Champions League over three seasons.
His 10 goals in European competitions this season — five of which came from the penalty spot — showcased his talent to a wider audience.
Now, he will have the opportunity to prove himself in La Liga and beyond.
It remains uncertain what will happen to Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford following Gordon’s arrival, as the permanent transfer clause in his loan deal to the Nou Camp expires next month.
