Ederson is poised to become Manchester United’s first signing under manager Michael Carrick.

Earlier today, football journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester United and Atalanta have finalised all necessary paperwork to complete a €45 million transfer for Ederson.

The Italian reporter has now provided additional details about the high-profile move and United’s next steps once the deal is officially concluded.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano stated that Ederson has already undergone an initial, unofficial medical for Manchester United with Atalanta’s authorisation.

It is understood that the Brazilian midfielder will travel to England after his vacation to formally sign his contract with the Premier League club.

Despite receiving interest from other teams, the 26-year-old is said to have been determined to join Manchester United for several months. Earlier this year, Atletico Madrid made an unsuccessful attempt to secure his services.

Described by The Athletic as a “dynamic blade runner,” Ederson is expected to bring strength and athleticism to United’s midfield following the departure of his compatriot Casemiro.

His former coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, once praised Ederson’s abilities, saying: “In terms of physicality, recoveries, and timing of his runs, Ederson is definitely an extraordinary player, one suited for teams operating at the very top level.”

Romano urged fans to “stay tuned,” promising further updates on Manchester United’s midfield rebuild in the coming days.

He added that the club are already “working on it” behind the scenes, as Carrick is expected to add at least one more midfielder to the squad before the next season begins.

At present, Mateus Fernandes appears to be the next target. The West Ham United talent is likely to depart following the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Additional reports suggest that discussions for Fernandes are ongoing and that “representatives remain confident of a deal.”
