What began as one of the main focal points of Real Madrid’s presidential election campaign has now met with resistance from those closest to Jurgen Klopp.
Just hours after presidential hopeful Enrique Riquelme announced that the former Liverpool coach was his preferred candidate to take charge at Real Madrid, a firm response from Klopp’s camp has seemingly dismissed the idea.
The declaration had drawn widespread attention as Riquelme had positioned Klopp as the centrepiece of his sporting vision for the club.
However, new reports from Germany indicate that the former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager has no plans to return to club management anytime in the near future.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke was displeased to see his client’s name being used in the election narrative.
Responding to the reports, Kosicke remarked, “It’s annoying! Jurgen Klopp is happy in his role at Red Bull and has no ambitions to work as a manager at a club.”
These remarks serve as the clearest indication yet that Klopp is not considering a return to the dugout, irrespective of the club involved.
The German reporter further added that a move to Real Madrid is not being viewed as a realistic option for Klopp.
He suggested that if Klopp ever decides to return to coaching, the most likely destination would be the German national team rather than another club side.
Interestingly, Riquelme’s campaign had already acknowledged the challenge of convincing Klopp even before the statement from his agent surfaced.
In his official announcement, Riquelme admitted that the ex-Liverpool boss had made it clear that he wanted to take a break from management in the short term.
“We know that Jurgen Klopp has publicly stated that he has no intention of returning to management in the short term and that he has turned down numerous offers.”
“That is precisely why we believe Real Madrid’s challenge is different. Because there are many great clubs, but there is only one Real Madrid.”
For now, the strongest message comes from Klopp’s own camp. The German appears content in his current position within the Red Bull football organisation, and his representatives have made it clear that a return to club management is not currently being considered.
