Desk: OpenAI has introduced a major update to make ChatGPT’s memory capacity smarter than ever. The company has launched a new memory architecture called “Dreaming”, with the help of which ChatGPT will be able to better remember old conversations, user preferences and ongoing projects. The purpose of this update is to reduce the need to give the same information to users again and again. The company claims that the new system is not only more accurate but can also handle old and irrelevant data better.

According to OpenAI, Dreaming is a new memory architecture that works in the background to manage and update information from past conversations. The purpose of this is to ensure that ChatGPT remembers the necessary information and the user does not have to repeat the same information again and again. The company said that this system will be used in future conversations by better understanding the user’s preferences, ongoing work and important contexts. This feature is an advanced version of the memory features launched in the last two years. It is currently being rolled out to Plus and Pro subscribers in the US, while it will be rolled out to other regions and free users in the coming weeks.

OpenAI says that the new system focuses on three key areas. First, remembering useful information from old conversations. Second, consistently implementing user preferences and preferences. And third, to keep the memory updated according to changing circumstances over time. According to the internal benchmark shared by the company, the factual recall score has increased from 67.9 percent to 82.8 percent. At the same time, the ability to follow user preferences has increased from 55.3 percent to 71.3 percent. Performance in time-based memory tasks has also increased from 52.2 percent to 75.1 percent. This will enable ChatGPT to provide more accurate and useful answers than before.

With this update, OpenAI is also bringing a new memory summary page. On this page, users will be able to see what information ChatGPT has learned about them over time. From here, users will also be able to give instructions to edit, delete any information or remember new things for future. The company has also claimed that to run the dreaming system, less computing resources will be required than before. This will make it easier to extend this feature to more users and will also increase the memory capacity for existing Plus and Pro subscribers. OpenAI believes that this change will prove to be an important step towards making ChatGPT a more personal and useful AI assistant.
