America has given visa to Iran’s team for FIFA World Cup 2026. Now Iran’s football team will be able to play its matches in America. Due to Iran’s war with Israel and America, there was doubt over the team’s participation in the World Cup, but with the approval of the visa, now FIFA’s tension has also reduced. Due to difficulties in the visa process, Iran had to move its training base from Tucson, Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico, bordering California.
Two American officials have told news agency AP that members of Iran’s World Cup football team have received US visas. This will allow them to come to America from their training base in Tijuana, Mexico, before their first two matches to be held near Los Angeles this month.
An official said that the visas of all the players of the Iran team have been approved and the process of getting them visas is going on. Another official said visas have been issued for players, coaches, trainers and some support staff. US officials did not say whether any applicants from Iran had been denied visas. He said that the Iranian team can soon get passports for travel.
Iran also trained in Türkiye
Before leaving for Tijuana, the Iran team was preparing for the World Cup in a training camp in Antalya, Turkey. The Iranian team said that it has already received a visa from the Mexican Embassy in Ankara. US Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack praised the US Embassy in Ankara for starting the visa process for the Iranian team. “Sports transcends borders and we look forward to welcoming players and fans from all over the world,” Barrack wrote in a post on social media on Friday.
What is Iran’s schedule?
Iran will play its first two matches in Inglewood, California. The first match will be against New Zealand on June 15 and the second against Belgium six days later. After this the team will go to Seattle, where it will face Egypt on June 26. If Iran and America finish second in their respective groups, they could face each other in the ‘Round of 32’ on July 3 in Arlington, Texas.
