How did SP shift to ‘Hindutva’ while talking about roads, development, PDA?

Samajwadi Party’s National President Akhilesh Yadav is attacking Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) these days for insulting Hindus and Brahmins. He says that in the BJP government, Brahmins are being insulted, saints are being attacked, Samajwadi Party respects them. Akhilesh Yadav has raised questions on the Yogi government regarding Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati.

This stance of Akhilesh Yadav is shocking for the old socialists. From Mulayam Singh Yadav to Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajkumar Bhati, everyone has been speaking out against the upper castes. Now Akhilesh Yadav, contrary to tradition, is trying new politics. It seems that the Samajwadi Party has deviated from its core ideology.

Has Samajwadi Party deviated from its roots?

Samajwadi Party is influenced by the ideas of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. He gave the theory of Sapta Kranti, which the party has been following for a long time. Lohia believed that there should be no discrimination between men and women, racial discrimination should end, caste system should end, people should be free from the slavery of empire and slavery, economic equality, there should be no government interference in personal life, people should move on the path of non-violence and Satyagraha.

There was no place for caste system and religiosity in Lohia’s principles. Soft Hindutva has entered Akhilesh Yadav’s politics, he is talking about the interests of Brahmins, he wants the government to declare a holiday in the state on Parshuram Jayanti. He is accusing BJP of insulting saints and sages. On those issues on which he has been cornering the Yogi government, he himself is doing politics on those issues.

How has Akhilesh Yadav shifted to Hindutva?

Akhilesh Yadav has constructed ‘Kedareshwar Mahadev Temple’ in Etawah. This temple is spread over about 50 bighas in front of Etawah Safari Park. He has also visited Badrinath Dham. He goes to temples and also applies Tripunda. First, Akhilesh Yadav also calls himself a true Sanatani and surrounds the Yogi government.

Akhilesh Yadav is now trying to improve his image. Akhilesh Yadav, who emphasizes on backward, Dalit, minority (PDA) politics, now also has a section of Brahmins in his politics. He is continuously cornering Yogi on the issue of insulting Brahmins. Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand continuously gave many such statements in favor of Akhilesh Yadav, after which he is excited.

Where did Akhilesh Yadav learn the trick?

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party had strongly raised the issue of Ram Temple. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ram Temple in January, people linked it to the elections. Then Avimukteshwaranand said that this temple is incomplete and hence it cannot be inaugurated. He also argued that if the idols are consecrated, then what will happen to the idols of Ramlala already present? Shankaracharya Swami Nischalanand Saraswati of Puri Peeth had also not agreed to the consecration of the Ram temple.

Samajwadi Party made it a political issue. When Lok Sabha elections were held in April-June, BJP suffered a major setback. Even after the Ram temple issue, BJP did not get any political benefit. BJP had 62 seats in UP in 2019, only 33 seats are left in the 2024 elections. Akhilesh Yadav felt that now this can be made an issue.

Why is Akhilesh Yadav changing his attitude?

Assembly elections are going to be held in the year 2027. Samajwadi Party had given the formula of ‘PDA’ to attract ‘backward, Dalit, minority’ voters in the 2024 elections. This formula was also successful. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is continuously losing its support base.

In 2019, Bahujan Samaj Party, which had 10 seats, could not even open its account in the 2024 elections. Akhilesh Yadav is now trying to break into the vote bank of BJP by moving forward on the issue of Hindutva.

The population of OBC category in UP is more than 50 percent. Muslim population is more than 19 percent. Dalit voters are 20 percent and Brahmin class is 12 percent. If Akhilesh Yadav is successful in taming them then the path of BJP may become more difficult.
