Buenos Aires, June 6:
Former Argentina winger Maxi Rodriguez has said that Lionel Messi continues to be driven by the same hunger and determination that made him one of the greatest footballers of all time. According to Rodriguez, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner remains motivated by his dream of securing another FIFA World Cup title.
Messi, who led Argentina to World Cup triumph in Qatar in 2022, is once again captaining the defending champions at the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, scheduled to begin on June 11.
“Messi’s motivation comes from his relentless hunger for victory and his desire to create history once more. He just keeps moving forward – nothing can hold him back. His focus is solely on the honour of representing his nation; records don’t even cross his mind,” Rodriguez told FIFA.
He added, “Messi wants to be crowned world champion again. He is giving everything he has once more because that hunger defines who he is.”
Rodriguez further remarked, “Without that mindset and determination, he wouldn’t have achieved all that he has. That’s the reason we can still enjoy watching him take the field in Argentina’s legendary No. 10 jersey at another World Cup.”
