Former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood appears to be on the verge of leaving Olympique de Marseille, with reports suggesting that he has already chosen his next destination.

Manchester United finalised Greenwood’s permanent transfer to Marseille in the summer of 2024 for a fee of £26.6 million. Since moving to France, the 24-year-old has revived his career impressively, netting 48 goals in 81 matches. However, his time at the club has become uncertain following the exit of manager Roberto De Zerbi, leading to speculation about his future.

Earlier this week, reports indicated that Marseille are open to listening to offers for Greenwood, who still has three years left on his contract. The English forward has now reportedly become a prime target for Turkish side Fenerbahce, with both of the club’s presidential candidates — Aziz Yildirim and Hakan Safi — listing him as a key signing priority.

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Hakan Safi has publicly stated that he has “reached an agreement” with Greenwood regarding a potential move. Safi added, “The deal is ready until June 2030 if I win the elections.”

Romano further revealed that Greenwood has followed and liked Safi’s profile on social media, hinting at a possible connection between the two. In his latest update on YouTube, Romano mentioned that Marseille are demanding a transfer fee of around €55 million for the versatile forward.

Meanwhile, Serie A side AS Roma are also reportedly interested in signing Greenwood. However, given Safi’s recent statement, the Italian club might need to act quickly if they wish to bring the Englishman to Italy.

Manchester United are believed to have included a significant sell-on clause in Greenwood’s transfer to Marseille, meaning they could benefit financially should the player secure another big-money move.

The Red Devils could certainly use the additional funds this summer, especially as they look to strengthen their attacking options. However, most of their transfer budget is expected to be directed towards bolstering the midfield.

Recent reports have linked United with several strikers — including Victor Osimhen and Jean-Philippe Mateta — as INEOS are reportedly eager to replace Joshua Zirkzee with a more consistent goal scorer.
