This book has been captured all over the world. Millions of copies have been sold.

What exactly was the specialty of the book? Satrapi painted a picture of his youth spent there during the reign of Ayatollah Khamenei. ‘Persepolis’ is a faithful document of how the homeland is changing before the eyes of a teenage girl, its political unrest and the erosion of women’s freedom. Later, he created an animated version of the story with French director Vincent Parono. The black-and-white animation also won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. He was also an active human rights activist. Has always been vocal against the oppression of women and prisoners in Iran. In 2025, he was offered France’s highest national honor, the Legion d’Honneur. But Satrapi did not agree to take it.
