Lifestyle Desk – In today’s busy life, people look for ways in which food can be prepared quickly and easily. It is common to use a mixer to make gravy, soup, tomato-onion masala or many other dishes. But it is often seen that while grinding hot gravy or soup in the mixer, its lid suddenly opens. This not only makes the kitchen dirty, but also increases the risk of injury due to hot splashes falling on hands and face. If this happens to you too, then this problem can be avoided by adopting some easy measures.
Why does the lid of the mixer open?
When a very hot liquid is condensed in a closed jar, its heat produces steam. This steam creates pressure inside the jar. As the blades rotate, the pressure increases further. Sometimes this pressure pushes the lid upwards and it can open suddenly.
let it cool down a bit first
Instead of putting hot gravy or soup directly in the mixer, let it cool for a few minutes. When the temperature decreases a little, less steam will be formed and the pressure inside the jar will not increase. This is considered the easiest and safest method.
Don’t fill the jar completely
Often people fill the jar to the top to save time. By doing this, the material is not given space to rotate while grinding and the pressure can increase rapidly. It would be better to fill the jar only half or two-thirds. If necessary, grind the ingredients twice.
hold the lid firmly
While running the mixer, place a clean and thick kitchen towel on the lid and press it gently. This reduces the possibility of the lid opening suddenly even if pressure builds up inside. It also protects from any kind of splashes.
use pulse mode
Use pulse mode instead of running the mixer continuously. This stops the machine intermittently and gives an opportunity to control the steam formed inside. This method is considered safer for grinding hot liquids.
Be careful while opening the lid
Do not open the lid immediately after grinding. First switch off the mixer and wait for a few seconds. After this, open the lid slowly in a direction away from you so that if steam comes out, it does not come directly on the face.
Select the right equipment
If you often make soups or hot gravies, use a high-speed blender or mixer designed for hot liquids. These have better safety features and less chances of accidents.
