Florentino Perez has brushed aside rumours linking Real Madrid with Erling Haaland and Harry Kane while teasing that the club will unveil a €150 million signing next week. During a televised appearance, the Real Madrid president emphasised the club’s strong financial position as he faces increasing pressure amid the ongoing presidential race.
Perez hints at a blockbuster transfer plan
Appearing on the TV show Horizonte, Perez discussed Real Madrid’s transfer objectives at a time when attention around the club’s presidency is intensifying. The long-serving president firmly denied reports suggesting that Madrid are pursuing either Haaland or Kane. Instead, he implied that the club is finalising a different high-profile deal.
He revealed that an announcement involving a player worth around €150 million is expected next week, indicating that a major signing is on the verge of being completed. These statements come as Perez faces growing competition from presidential challenger Enrique Riquelme, who has publicly promised to sign Haaland for the club as part of his campaign pledge.
Perez clarifies Real Madrid’s stance
Perez was clear when addressing speculation linking several prominent players with the club, including Michael Olise, Haaland, and Kane. He stated, “Olise is a fantastic player, but he’s not the one I’m referring to. It’s not [Jeremy] Doku or Haaland either. The signing will be from midfield forward.”
When speaking about upcoming transfers, Perez continued, “I can tell you about three signings: [Jose] Mourinho, [Ibrahima] Konate, and [Denzel] Dumfries. But that’s not all. On Tuesday, I will make a substantial offer to a top Champions League club for an exceptional player. It will be the biggest transfer fee in Real Madrid’s history — at least €150 million.”
Internal politics and tension with Riquelme
The president’s remarks come amid growing internal friction at the Bernabeu. Perez has openly criticised Riquelme, accusing him of trying to influence the values and direction of the club.
“The criticism doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is that these individuals are trying to manipulate Real Madrid; Riquelme’s father was one of them,” Perez said. “I’ve noticed a coordinated effort in the media to destabilise the club. I wanted to stop it early, which is why I decided to call elections. It’s no coincidence that those who tried to destabilise Real Madrid were the same people responsible for a dark chapter in our history. They brought outsiders into the club’s assemblies — they infiltrated. That’s why I returned in 2009. Now, it’s their children doing the same. I’m angry.”
Responding to Riquelme’s claim about signing Haaland, Perez added, “Everyone has denied it — his father, his agent, and the club. It’s a bluff. His campaign is full of bluffs. That’s why I’m here — to defend Real Madrid. We are a united institution.”
All eyes on next week’s big reveal
The focus now shifts to discovering the identity of the €150 million player Perez has promised to unveil. The impending announcement could play a key role in shaping the presidential campaign narrative and potentially sway club members ahead of the vote. As Riquelme continues to promote his vision for Real Madrid, Perez will be hoping that securing a marquee signing strengthens his position and reinforces confidence in the club’s strategic direction for the future.
