Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is in line for a remarkable treble after being shortlisted for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, having already claimed both the Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year honours.

Fernandes delivered a record-breaking campaign in the Premier League, surpassing the previous assist record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. His creativity and leadership proved vital as Manchester United bounced back from a poor start to finish third under manager Michael Carrick.

With two major individual awards already secured, the Portuguese star now aims to complete a hat-trick by winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year for the first time. If successful, he would become the first Manchester United player to lift the trophy since Wayne Rooney in 2010.

Five other players have been nominated for the prestigious honour, with three Arsenal stars making the list following their Premier League title-winning season.

Goalkeeper David Raya, defender Gabriel, and midfielder Declan Rice have all been recognised for their contributions in ending the Gunners’ 22-year wait for a league triumph. Raya featured in all but one league fixture and clinched his third consecutive Premier League Golden Glove award. Gabriel anchored the meanest defence in the division, which conceded just 27 goals, while Rice added four goals and seven assists in 36 appearances, missing only one match through injury before being rested for the final game against Crystal Palace.

The shortlist is completed by Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki. Haaland once again topped the scoring charts, securing the Golden Boot with 27 goals — five more than Brentford’s Igor Thiago.

Last season’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year was Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, but this year no player from the Merseyside club has made the final cut.

The winner will be revealed during the 53rd annual PFA Awards Ceremony, scheduled to take place in Manchester on Tuesday, August 25.
