Arne Slot has spoken publicly for the first time since his unexpected dismissal from Liverpool, sending a personal message to supporters shortly after the club confirmed his departure. The Dutch manager’s two-year stint with the Premier League side has come to an end following a disappointing second season that left the Reds without any trophies.
Liverpool part ways with Dutch boss
The Merseyside club officially announced the end of Slot’s tenure at Anfield after two years in charge. In a detailed joint statement with the club’s ownership group, Liverpool described the decision as immensely difficult. Slot had guided the team to the Premier League title in his first campaign, but a noticeable decline in form the following season resulted in a fifth-place finish and a season without silverware.
Club issues detailed statement
In their official joint statement, the club and its owners acknowledged Slot’s influence and achievements during his time in charge: “The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC during his tenure has been significant, meaningful and – most importantly to both supporters and ourselves – successful.
“Our appreciation for all that he has accomplished could not be higher, especially as it was built upon a tireless work ethic, attention to detail, and a level of expertise that affirmed our belief in him as a leader in his profession.
“The compassion and humanity he displayed throughout his time here spoke volumes about his character. We wholeheartedly wish Arne success in the next chapter of his coaching career, confident that he will continue to thrive. We also do so knowing that his legacy at Liverpool remains secure and will gain even greater significance in the years ahead.
“However, the decision we have reached stems from a conviction that the team’s current path requires a new direction. This in no way diminishes the work Arne has done or the respect we hold for him. Nor does it question his abilities. It simply reflects the need for a different approach.
“Arne departs with our gratitude, a Premier League title to his name, and the assurance that he and his family will always be warmly welcomed back at Anfield.”
Slot’s farewell message
Despite the abrupt nature of the news, Slot was quick to express his appreciation to Liverpool fans. In a statement shared online by journalist Fabrizio Romano soon after the club’s announcement, the departing coach reflected on his time in charge: “It’s been an incredible journey together with Liverpool. I am extremely thankful that we managed to win the league last season.”
Anfield board begins search for replacement
Following Slot’s exit, Liverpool now faces the challenge of managing an unplanned managerial transition ahead of the upcoming campaign. Former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has reportedly emerged as the leading candidate for the role after guiding the Cherries to an impressive sixth-place finish. Whoever takes charge next will be tasked with revitalising the squad, restoring confidence, and preparing the team for a demanding return to Champions League competition.
