Honda City Facelift Buying Guide: As soon as sedan cars are mentioned in the Indian automobile market, the first name that comes to mind is Honda City. For years this car has been the king of the mid-size sedan segment. Maintaining its legacy, the company has launched Honda City Facelift in the market with new updates.
If you are also planning to buy a premium, comfortable and reliable sedan for your family, then the different variants and two engine options (petrol and hybrid) of Honda City may confuse you a bit.
In this complete buying guide, we will understand in simple words, without any unnecessary technical complications, which variant and engine will prove to be value for money for you as per your budget and requirement.
Step 1: Engine selection — Petrol (i-VTEC) or Hybrid (e:HEV)?
You get two types of engine options in Honda City Facelift. The right choice depends on your everyday running (driving):
A: 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine
This is Honda’s most reliable and smooth engine, which generates power of 119 hp. It comes with 6-speed manual and CVT automatic gearbox.
- Mileage: Around 17.8 km/l in manual and 18.4 km/l in automatic.
- Who is it best for: If your daily running is low (less than 1,000 kilometers a month) and most of your traveling is in cities or on highways on weekends, then the petrol engine is perfect for you.
B: 1.5-litre e:HEV Strong Hybrid Engine
This car itself generates electricity. It has an electric motor and battery pack along with the petrol engine, which work together.
- Mileage: Approximately 27.13 km/l (which is equivalent to a scooter!)
- Who is it best for: If your daily running is very high (above 1,500 kilometers a month) and you are often stuck in bumper-to-bumper city traffic, the hybrid will save you lakhs of rupees in petrol. However, for this you will have to spend around Rs 4-5 lakh more from your pocket in the beginning.
Step 2: Variant Guide — Which one is best in your budget?
Honda City Facelift mainly comes in four variants. Let us know what you get in which budget:
1. SV variant (base model) — for budget buyers
If your budget is limited but you want the status and comfort of Honda City, then this variant is for you.
- What you get: 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 4 airbags, keyless entry, tilt and telescopic steering, and projector headlights.
- Decision: It comes only in petrol manual. This is a very practical choice with essential features in a low budget.
2. V Variant – Most Value for Money
This is the best selling variant of Honda City’s lineup as it is a perfect balance of budget and features.
- What you get: Apart from all the features of the base model—safety features like Honda Sensing (ADAS – Advanced Driver Assistance System), cruise control, 15-inch alloy wheels, and rear view camera. This variant is available in both manual and automatic (CVT).
- Decision: If you want modern safety features (like lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking) at a low price, then blindly choose this variant.
3. VX variant – a dash of comfort and features
If you want a luxurious feel while sitting inside the car, then you will like the VX variant.
- What you get: Other features on the V variant include—electric sunroof, 6 airbags (more safety), 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and a 7-inch digital TFT instrument cluster.
- Decision: For those who give importance to sunroof and more airbags, this variant is perfect for them.
4. ZX Variant (top model) — No Compromise
This is the most premium and luxury variant of Honda City, in which the company has given everything.
- What you get: Among the VX’s features—luxury leatherette seats, full LED headlights, lane-watch camera (for spotting blind spots), and ventilated seats (best for summers).
- Decision: If budget is not an issue and you want the ultimate luxury experience in the sedan segment, then the ZX variant is made for you.
Most Value for Money Variant:-
City V variant (Petrol). In this, you get advanced safety like ADAS at the lowest price, which no other car offers in this budget.
Final selection of engine:-
If the budget is a bit tight, go for the petrol CVT (automatic), it is very smooth. But if your pocket is tight and running is high, then the ZX e:HEV (Hybrid) variant will prove to be the most money-saving deal for you in the long term.
