Arsenal have reportedly expressed their interest to Porto regarding Manchester United’s transfer target William Gomes, according to recent reports.

Several sources suggest that the Gunners are planning to sign at least one new forward in the upcoming summer transfer window to build on their achievements from this season.

Last month, Arsenal were crowned Premier League champions, with Mikel Arteta bringing an end to their 22-year wait for a league title.

However, they were unable to complete a perfect season as they lost 4-3 on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

While Arsenal showcased exceptional defensive solidity throughout the season, some critics pointed out their overreliance on set pieces and a somewhat conservative attacking approach.

According to reports by The Athletic’s David Ornstein and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, signing a left-winger remains one of Arsenal’s main priorities this summer, though the club could also look to bring in a new striker.

Speaking on TNT Sports after the Champions League final, Ornstein said: “The number nine position is an interesting one. Spare a thought for Victor Gyokeres tonight – after an impressive first season that helped his team reach the final, he was left on the bench.”

He added: “The left-sided attack is a major focus for them. They’ve been exploring this position for a few years now, and this summer might be the one where they make a serious move. They already have options there.”

Ornstein further explained: “They’re also targeting a number six or eight midfielder and looking to reinforce the right-back position. Considering all these needs, Arsenal’s spending this summer could match or even surpass last year’s outlay.”

He continued: “At least three signings are expected, possibly more depending on departures. A top winger is the main priority, followed by a midfielder and a right-back. The striker situation will be evaluated afterwards.”

According to Globo Esporte, Arsenal have now “made an enquiry” about the availability of Porto forward William Gomes, who has an €80 million (£69 million) release clause at the Portuguese club.

The report claims that Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, and Manchester United “have all requested information about the 20-year-old Brazilian” and “each of the three clubs has contacted the player’s representatives to assess the circumstances.”

It is believed that Porto are not willing to make any potential transfer easy and will only consider parting ways with Gomes if one of the interested clubs triggers his release clause.

Meanwhile, Leandro Trossard could be one of the players to leave Arsenal’s attacking lineup this summer. The Belgian, who started in the Champions League final against PSG, is reportedly attracting major interest from Turkish outfit Besiktas. According to Sporx, the Istanbul-based side are “pushing hard” to sign him and are “expected to make a serious offer to the north London club in the coming days.”

Trossard is said to be “at the top of Besiktas’ transfer list,” and the club has “reopened discussions” with Arsenal after previously showing interest in the winger last summer.
