Arsenal appear to be on the verge of completing a move for Leicester City’s promising 16-year-old winger, Jeremy Monga, as they fend off competition from other Premier League clubs. The reigning champions have identified the teenage wide player as a key summer acquisition as part of their push to strengthen their squad with the best young English prospects available.
Gunners chase Leicester sensation
As per a report from The Times, Arsenal are currently ahead in the race to sign Leicester’s talented youngster Monga. The North London giants view the 16-year-old as a crucial part of their long-term plan to bring in top-tier English talent. Monga’s exit from the King Power Stadium has been fast-tracked following Leicester’s relegation to League One, after finishing 23rd in the Championship with 46 points.
Former manager’s glowing review
Monga made his Premier League debut at just 15 years and 271 days old against Newcastle United, making him the third-youngest player ever to feature in the competition. Only Arsenal’s Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri have made their debuts at a younger age. His then-manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, was full of praise for the young winger after his first appearance in April 2025.
Van Nistelrooy said, “You could see glimpses of his great qualities. He’s a tremendous winger with real pace. He’s a fantastic talent and a great lad. He earned those minutes, and hopefully, there are many more ahead.”
Arteta keen on adaptable youngster
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is known to be a long-time admirer of the England Under-19 international, who is capable of playing effectively on either wing or in a central creative role. The two-footed attacker gained vital senior experience last season, appearing in 27 matches and starting eight times during Leicester’s challenging Championship campaign. According to The Standard, Monga’s estimated market value currently lies between £10 million and £15 million.
Contract and tribunal considerations
Monga is expected to sign his first professional contract with Leicester City on July 10, his 17th birthday, which would entitle the Foxes to compensation. Arsenal aim to reach an agreement over a transfer fee before that date to avoid the complexities of a tribunal process. The move comes amid changes in Arsenal’s attacking options, with young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri’s future uncertain following his loan spell at Marseille.
