Delhi-Kathmandu will further strengthen bilateral relations, S. Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal will come to India on Jaishankar’s invitation

Kathmandu. Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal Foreign Minister S. Will visit India on 06 June on the invitation of Jaishankar. Khanal and Jaishankar met during the 9th Indian Ocean Conference held in Mauritius earlier this year. According to ‘Nepal Khabar’, during the upcoming visit, both the leaders will discuss strengthening bilateral relations in various areas including trade, investment, connectivity, energy and strengthening people-to-people ties.

RSP leader Ravi Lamichhane met PM Modi

Khanal’s visit comes just after Nepal’s ruling Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Rabi Lamichhane’s high-level visit to the Indian capital, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, S. Had met Jaishankar and senior BJP leaders. During Lamichhane’s meeting with PM Modi, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy and discussed ways to strengthen long-term relations between the two countries.

Important issues discussed in the meeting

According to reports, the discussions focused on enhancing economic cooperation, improving cross-border infrastructure and digital connectivity, and further strengthening the deep civilizational and people-to-people ties between New Delhi and Kathmandu. According to members of the RSP delegation accompanying Lamichhane, the discussions held during his visit will be helpful in shaping the agenda of upcoming diplomatic meetings.

Deepak Bohra, a member of the RSP secretariat who accompanied Lamichhane to India, said a “checklist” of bilateral issues would be prepared before meeting Mr Khanal. Lamichhane also held separate talks with Jaishankar during his visit, in which development cooperation, connectivity and enhancing exchanges between the two countries were discussed.

Strengthening Nepal-India development partnership

After the meeting, Jaishankar said that the main topic of discussion was to strengthen Nepal-India development partnership and enhance people-to-people contacts, which he described as essential for shared prosperity and development. Issuing a formal statement regarding the visit, Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said, “As part of the regular exchange of high-level visits, this visit will further strengthen the long-term and multidimensional bilateral relations between Nepal and India.” The Nepali Foreign Minister will return to Kathmandu after concluding his visit on June 07.
