In today’s digital era, whatever apps or social media platforms we use, login or verification process is very important from security point of view. But waiting for OTP again and again, getting upset when the message does not arrive and switching between different apps is quite tiring. To end this problem forever, telecom company Vodafone Idea (Vi) has taken a big step. The company has announced the launch of ‘Silent Mobile Verification’ (SMV) feature for its customers on Meta’s most popular platforms – WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. After the introduction of this technology, users are going to get a very secure and password-free digital experience. What is Silent Mobile Verification (SMV) and how will it work? It is a network-based authentication technology. In simple words, when you login to any of Meta’s apps (like WhatsApp or Instagram), your Vodafone Idea network will automatically verify your mobile number in the background. For this you will not need to enter any OTP manually. In which works will you get direct benefit from it? According to the company, the scope of this technology will not be limited to just simple login, but customers will benefit from it at many levels: Creating a new account: New users will not have to go through a lengthy verification process at the time of onboarding. Login and Re-Login: Logging in again when the app logs out is a snap. Account Recovery: If you forget the password, it is easier than ever to get the account back. Security Check: Background network verification will immediately strengthen security when suspicious activity occurs. Great combination of security and convenience Features/Scale Old system (OTP/Password) New system (SMV technology) Time consumption Waiting for messages and manual entry was time consuming. Instant and automatic verification in the background. Convenience level No hassle of switching between apps again and again. Completely password-free and seamless experience. Strong shield against cyber fraud: As the scope of online services is increasing rapidly in India, cases of cyber crime and fake identity are also coming to the fore. In such an environment, it is no longer the job of telecom companies to just provide connectivity. Vodafone Idea Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abhijeet Kishore says that in today’s time, telecom networks are playing an important role in providing secure digital experience. This partnership with Meta will strengthen the cyber security of customers and make authentication extremely easy on the country’s largest digital platforms.
