A period of upheaval has begun at TSV 1860 Munich as investor Hasan Ismaik’s long and often turbulent 15-year association with the club comes to an abrupt end.

After years of unrest and internal conflict, 1860 Munich’s registered association has ended its cooperation agreement with Ismaik following the team’s forced relegation to the Regionalliga. The announcement was made via an official club statement, which was later cited by *Bild*.

The club’s statement read: “TSV Munich 1860 e.V. has terminated the cooperation agreement signed on 30 May 2011 with HAM International with immediate effect for good cause.” It further added, “Looking ahead to the 2026/27 season, TSV 1860 Munich is undertaking all necessary organisational and legal measures. The Bavarian Football Association has already approved the club’s participation in the Bavarian Regionalliga.”

In a surprising development, Ismaik withdrew previously approved loans, a move that pushed the historic Munich club into its second relegation to the fourth division since 2017. The team fell short of the 3. Liga licence fee by €2.7 million.

Following this, Ismaik announced he would not intervene to prevent insolvency. In an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Jordanian businessman remarked, “I think it has become evident to everyone that continuously injecting new funds each year is not a sustainable solution.” He further explained, “The real question is not about whether someone provides another loan, but how the club plans to create a stable future that doesn’t rely on emergency financing every season.”

After the main sponsor ‘die Bayerische’ activated its relegation exit clause, reports suggested that the club was left with a €2.7 million deficit—the exact amount required to secure its third-division licence and avoid insolvency.

On Wednesday, club officials confirmed to frustrated supporters outside their Giesing headquarters that TSV 1860 Munich would indeed compete in the fourth-tier Regionalliga next season due to the failed licensing process.

Club president Gernot Mang addressed the situation, stating, “We didn’t get the licence, which means we’ll be playing in the Regionalliga next year,” confirming that the club could not bridge the €2.7 million gap before the 5 pm deadline.
