Manchester City are reportedly set to edge Manchester United in the race to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
Although City’s initial offer for Anderson has been turned down, the Premier League champions are expected to continue their pursuit of the young English midfielder.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have shifted their attention to Mateus Fernandes, with recent reports indicating that the Red Devils are currently leading the chase for his signature.
According to a report from A Bola, relayed by Sport Witness, Liverpool have now joined Manchester United in the battle to sign Fernandes. The 21-year-old midfielder is believed to be ready to depart West Ham United following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
Both clubs from the northwest of England are said to have been tracking Fernandes closely for almost two years.
The Portuguese outlet, however, claims that Manchester United are presently ahead of Liverpool in the race to secure his services.
Michael Carrick is reportedly keen to overhaul his team’s midfield options and views Fernandes as a key player capable of strengthening and reshaping that part of the squad.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are understood to be monitoring the situation carefully and could make a move if United’s negotiations with West Ham fail to progress.
The 5’10” Portuguese midfielder is known for his adaptability, creativity, sharp passing, and determination, making him one of the most complete young midfielders in European football.
Given his recent rise in profile, West Ham are believed to be eager to capitalise on the growing interest surrounding their talented playmaker.
According to A Bola, the Hammers are demanding a transfer fee close to €80 million for the former Sporting CP star, while Manchester United are only prepared to offer up to €55 million.
It has been previously reported that Fernandes is keen on a move to Old Trafford. Nevertheless, should United fail to reach an agreement with West Ham, Liverpool could attempt to step in and secure a deal for the player.
