Rumblings of a major change are being heard in the political circles of Bihar, where the Z Plus security given to Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, is under cloud. The Bihar government has issued an important letter on Thursday, June 04, 2026, announcing a reduction in their security category, which has sparked a new debate in the political circles of the state. The decision has come at a time when political turmoil is at its peak in the state, and has given the opposition another opportunity to attack the government.

In fact, after this decision, Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi will no longer get the strong cover of Z Plus security which they had till now. This protection category has been withdrawn. However, the security arrangements given to him as a former Chief Minister will continue. Under this new arrangement, 2 to 8 house guards will be deputed from Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP), who will ensure the security of their residence. Additionally, 02 bodyguards from Patna District Force will be deployed for his personal security round the clock. They will also be provided with a pilot and a bullet proof car by the Headquarters Quick Reaction Team (HQRT), which will make their travels safe. Besides, they will also be provided the facility of escort and pilot from Patna District Force. This security protocol will be equally applicable to Rabri Devi, so that her personal security can be ensured and she will continue to get security cover as per the status of the former Chief Minister.

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav will continue to get Y Plus security

On the other hand, there has been no change in the Y Plus category security arrangements given to Lalu Yadav’s younger son and Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav. Their security will remain the same as before, reflecting their current political stature and security needs. Tejashwi Yadav will continue to get the facility of 1 to 4 house guards from Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP) along with an escort vehicle in the Y Plus security. Apart from this, 06 bodyguards from Patna District Force will be deployed for his security, including 03 in plain clothes and 03 in uniform, which will strengthen his security in various situations. 1 to 4 escort parties (with vehicles) will also be deputed from Patna District Force. This comprehensive arrangement will make strong security arrangements during his public activities and travels, so that he does not face any hindrance in fulfilling his political responsibilities.

Tej Pratap Yadav will no longer get A category security

Important changes have also been made in the security arrangements of other key members of the family. Lalu Yadav’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, who earlier used to get A category security, will now be provided the security of only one bodyguard. This is a big change for them and is believed to be the result of a thorough evaluation by the security committee. At the same time, Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Misa Bharti will get three security personnel, who will help in her security during the discharge of her parliamentary duties and public programs. Tejashwi Yadav’s wife Rajshree Yadav will also be deputed a security guard, who will take care of her personal security.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Ajaz Ahmed has reacted sharply to this security cut and has taken the government to task. Attacking the government, he said that this step was only an attempt to create an atmosphere and termed it as motivated by political malice. Ahmed alleged that this reduction in security shows that government people are busy providing security from their homes, while the security of former chief ministers is being reduced. He said that the reduction in security of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and former Chief Minister Lalu Yadav was not in accordance with the rules, due to which the political conflict over this decision is likely to intensify.
