Liverpool have officially confirmed the appointment of Andoni Iraola as the club’s new manager.
The announcement follows quick negotiations, as the Reds sought a replacement for the recently dismissed Arne Slot ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Iraola emerged as the leading candidate for the role after a highly impressive season with Premier League side Bournemouth. Under his guidance, the Cherries secured a sixth-place finish, ending just three points behind Liverpool despite suffering fewer defeats.
Expressing his delight after the appointment, Iraola said in a statement released by the club, “Really excited, really excited. Because obviously you know about Liverpool, you know that it’s a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world.”
He further added, “But feeling inside and understanding a little bit more of this club, I always thought it’s a special club. You don’t need a lot of things to get attracted by Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool.”
Many supporters had expected Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso to take charge after Slot’s exit. However, Alonso chose to sign with Chelsea instead.
Iraola now steps into the managerial role while several Liverpool players are away representing their national teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
