Pakistan was irritated by the tournament which India is organizing for the first time, decided not to send the team.

Asian Senior Fencing Championship is going to be organized for the first time in India. This competition will be played at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from 19th June. Players from more than 30 countries of Asia and Oceania are going to participate in this tournament. However, Pakistan has decided not to send its team in this competition. Fencing Association of India General Secretary Rajeev Mehta said that official invitations were sent to both Pakistan and Afghanistan. But both the countries did not send the entries of their players. Now the visa process for players and officials is being completed.

Last month, India’s Sports Ministry had made it clear that the ban on bilateral sports relations with Pakistan will still continue. But Pakistani players will not be stopped from coming to India for international and multi-country competitions. Despite this, Pakistan decided not to participate in this competition. The last date for sending entries has also passed, so now players from Pakistan are not likely to participate.

Some countries are facing visa problems

Rajeev Mehta told that players and officials of some countries are facing difficulty in getting visas. Representatives from Hong Kong are facing delays in getting visa appointments because there are less slots available in the application centres. At the same time, visa applications of some representatives from Australia have been rejected. Organizers and concerned officials are together trying to find solutions to these problems.

President Abdelmonem may also join

During this competition, the General Assembly meeting of the Fencing Confederation of Asia will also be held for the first time in India. International Fencing Federation interim president Abdelmonem El Husseini is also expected to attend. The organizers believe that this tournament will help in giving a new identity to the fencing sport in India.
