Mayor Krishna Chakraborty announced his resignation from the post by submitting his resignation letter to the Commissioner of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation on Thursday afternoon. According to sources, he has also sent a copy of his resignation letter to State Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul and the Secretary of the concerned department. While leaving the office, Krishna Chakraborty clarified that his decision was motivated by purely personal reasons. He alleged that board meetings were not being held regularly, councilors were not present, and officials were always busy. It is noteworthy that after the defeat of Trinamool Congress in the state assembly elections, a series of resignation letters of TMC public representatives are being seen in various municipalities. Earlier, Mayor Ram Chakraborty of Chandannagar Municipal Corporation of Hooghly district had also resigned from his post, as a result of which an administrator had to be appointed there. On Wednesday itself, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim had also resigned from his post with the permission of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
