Guwahati: Days after forming a new government after winning Assembly polls this year, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the expansion of his cabinet on Jun 5. As many as 12 ministers are likely to be inducted in the cabinet.

Speaking on X on Thursday, the chief ministers announced the names of 12 ministers in the first expansion since returning to power last month. Announcing the names of new ministers, he wrote, “I am pleased to announce that the following Hon’ble Members of the Assam Legislative Assembly will be sworn in as Cabinet Ministers in the Government of Assam on 5 June 2026 at 12:45 PM.”?

Among the 12 ministers to be sworn in three are new faces in the cabinet. Among the 12, who will take oath are – Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Biswajit Daimary, Jayant Mallabaruah, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul, Nilima Devi, Pijush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu and Susanta Borgohain.

Currently, the Assam cabinet has four ministers, alongside Chief Minister Sarma. The four ministers are- Rameswar Teli (Transformation & Development), Atul Bora (Panchayat & Rural Development), Charan Boro (Transport), and Ajanta Neog (Women & Child Development). Apart from the BJP, these ministers are also from Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). It was on May 12 that Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath as Chief Minister for a second successive term at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Home Minister Amit Shah, other Union Ministers, BJP and NDA chief ministers and other dignitaries.
