AC Milan have emerged as unexpected contenders to sign West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, joining Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the pursuit of the Dutch forward following the Hammers’ relegation to the Championship. Summerville has become a prominent target for the Rossoneri, who are planning a major summer rebuild and could consider him as a potential successor to Rafael Leao.
Rossoneri intensify pursuit of Summerville
According to TEAMtalk, Milan have been closely monitoring Summerville and are deliberating over a formal approach ahead of what is expected to be a transformative transfer window at the San Siro. Despite West Ham’s disappointing season, the 22-year-old was one of their standout performers. His impressive form particularly during the latter half of the campaign drew interest from several top European clubs, with Milan now entering a competitive race for his signature.
Summerville ended the season strongly, recording five goals and two assists in his final 16 Premier League appearances. His consistent performances earned him a call-up to the Netherlands’ World Cup squad, even though he had yet to make his senior international debut at that time. He eventually made his first appearance for the national team in the Oranje’s 1-0 loss to Algeria.
Summerville viewed as a central figure in Milan’s rebuild
Milan’s pursuit of Summerville is part of a broader recruitment strategy led by owners RedBird ahead of the next campaign. The club’s recruitment efforts are running in tandem with ongoing discussions to finalise their coaching setup, which currently includes talks to appoint former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.
Irrespective of who becomes the next head coach, Milan’s scouting department reportedly believes that Summerville’s attributes—his pace, direct approach and creativity—make him an excellent fit for Serie A. For West Ham, however, retaining one of their most valuable players after relegation could prove difficult. The club are said to value the winger at around £35 million, after signing him from Leeds United for approximately £25 million in 2024.
Uncertainty looms over Leao’s future
With doubts surrounding the future of Portuguese star Rafael Leao, Milan are actively exploring offensive reinforcements. Leao is reportedly considering a move away from the San Siro this summer, prompting the club to identify suitable replacements. Within the club, Summerville is considered one of the leading candidates to strengthen the left flank of the attack should Leao depart.
Transfer battle expected to escalate
If Milan proceed with a concrete offer, they are expected to face stiff competition. Both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa have been keeping close tabs on Summerville and can present him with the opportunity to remain in the Premier League while participating in European competitions.
As the summer transfer window draws near, West Ham must decide whether to cash in on one of their most in-demand assets. Summerville’s impressive season has put him firmly on the radar of several clubs across England and Europe, setting the stage for what could become one of the most intriguing transfer battles of the summer.
