Instagram Account Hack Risk: There have been reports of Instagram account hijackings for the past few days. Despite Meta's claim of fixing the issue, the threat remains unaddressed.
Instagram Account Hack Risk: The risk of Instagram account hacking is not over yet.
Instagram Account Hack Risk: If you use Instagram, you need to be alert. A few days ago, news broke that a security flaw was allowing hackers to breach high-profile Instagram accounts . Following this, Meta announced a fix, but the problem remains unresolved. Many users have complained that this problem persists and their accounts are being hijacked. Let's explore how this whole issue began and what steps should be taken to protect your account.
Hackers are taking help of Meta AI
Hackers are using Meta AI to hack Instagram accounts. Hackers first use a VPN to trick the system into believing they are logging in from the same location as their targeted account. They then go to Instagram 's login page and select the "Forgot Password" option, from where they are redirected to the Meta AI support feature. While speaking with the AI chatbot, hackers request a new email address to be added to the account through a special prompt. Once the request is accepted, Instagram sends a verification code to the account, which the hackers then use to hack the account.
Meta had said that the issue would be fixed.
After the issue was reported, Meta claimed to have fixed it. The company stated that the security vulnerability had been fixed and affected accounts were being secured. However, the company did not provide information on how many accounts were affected by this issue.
Users claim – the problem has not been resolved.
According to media reports, despite Meta's assurances, many users are complaining that the issue hasn't been completely resolved. One user claimed that their secondary Instagram account was hijacked despite multi-factor authentication being enabled. The password for their primary account was also changed without authorization. Similarly, Esther Crawford, a product management director at Meta, also reported her Instagram account being compromised.
What are the preventive measures?
- Keep two-factor authentication enabled on your Instagram account.
- Always use a strong and unique password.
- Avoid using the same password for different accounts and platforms.
- If you notice any suspicious activity related to your account, change your password immediately.
