Waldemar Anton appears poised for a potential departure from Borussia Dortmund (BVB), with reports suggesting that a high-profile transfer could soon be on the horizon. Here’s the latest transfer news and speculation surrounding the Bundesliga giants.
According to reports, Borussia Dortmund centre-back Waldemar Anton has attracted interest from one of Europe’s top clubs. The Mirror claims that Manchester United, who finished third in the Premier League last season, are preparing a €40 million bid for the German World Cup defender after their scouts monitored him multiple times.
The report further states that United’s interim manager Michael Carrick—who assumed charge following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal earlier this year and recently earned a two-year extension after a strong second half of the season—is eager to reinforce his defensive line this summer. The English club’s scouting team has been particularly impressed with Anton’s performances.
With the futures of often-injured defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez uncertain, Anton has emerged as a key target on United’s shortlist. Sky previously reported English interest in the Dortmund centre-back back in March, with other clubs such as Aston Villa and Atlético Madrid also said to be monitoring his situation closely.
However, Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to entertain offers for Anton. The German international remains a crucial part of Niko Kovac’s defensive setup, especially given the squad’s current shortage at the back following Niklas Süle’s retirement and Emre Can’s season-ending cruciate ligament injury.
Although fellow defender Nico Schlotterbeck recently extended his contract, he included a release clause that could allow him to move to a top European side after the World Cup. This makes Anton’s presence even more vital to the team’s stability.
Anton, who joined Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart in 2024, remains under contract with BVB until 2028. The 29-year-old has been named in Germany’s World Cup squad as a backup central defender behind Nico Schlotterbeck and Jonathan Tah of FC Bayern Munich. If Joshua Kimmich is unavailable, head coach Julian Nagelsmann may deploy Anton as a right-back during the tournament to be held across the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
BVB Transfer Update: Italian Interest in Yan Couto?
There is growing speculation that Yan Couto could leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, with reports linking the Brazilian right-back to a possible move to Italy.
Transfer expert Matteo Moretto has reported that Serie A side Como are exploring a deal for the defender. The club, which finished fourth in Serie A last season and secured its first-ever UEFA Champions League qualification, is already in talks to bring the 24-year-old to Italy.
After two seasons at Dortmund without becoming a regular starter, Couto could be allowed to depart. The German club initially signed him on loan from Manchester City in 2024, later triggering a mandatory buy clause worth €25 million.
Since his contract runs until 2030, Dortmund will likely demand at least the €25 million they originally paid. For Como, who are gearing up for Champions League football, the potential transfer would involve a significant financial commitment if the interest materialises.
BVB News: Julian Duranville’s Future Hinges on Buy-Back Clause
Despite enduring over three years of injury setbacks, Borussia Dortmund have not given up on young forward Julien Duranville. According to Sport Bild, the club will only agree to sell the 20-year-old if the purchasing club accepts a buy-back clause, ensuring Dortmund retains the option to re-sign him later.
If no suitable offer meeting these conditions arrives, the Belgian winger will be sent out on another loan spell. Duranville spent the last six months at Swiss side FC Basel, where consistent playing time did not translate into standout performances.
BVB had paid €8.5 million to sign Duranville from RSC Anderlecht in early 2023, and his contract runs until 2028. His next destination remains uncertain, with French Ligue 1 club Strasbourg and newly promoted Serie A side AC Monza both reportedly showing interest.
To date, Duranville has made just 27 senior appearances for Borussia Dortmund, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
