Qatar has strongly condemned Iran's attacks on civilian targets in Bahrain and Kuwait, including a drone strike on Kuwait International Airport that caused significant damage, left dozens injured, and claimed the life of an Indian national.

In a statement posted on X, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attacks as a "grave violation" of the sovereignty of both countries and a blatant breach of international humanitarian law, including the principles prohibiting attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure during armed conflicts.

"The State of Qatar strongly condemns the Iranian attacks on civilian targets in the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Bahrain, including the attack on Kuwait International Airport," the ministry said. It reiterated Qatar's complete rejection of attacks on civilian facilities and stressed the need to de-escalate tensions to restore regional and global security and stability.

Qatar also expressed solidarity with Bahrain and Kuwait and supported all measures taken by the two nations to safeguard their sovereignty and security. The ministry wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attacks.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Kuwait Army said several Iranian drones targeted Terminal 1 of Kuwait International Airport, causing extensive damage and injuring multiple people. Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, spokesperson for Kuwait's Ministry of Defence, said the armed forces were closely monitoring the situation in coordination with relevant authorities and remained fully prepared to respond to any developments.

"The armed forces are in a state of complete readiness to deal with any developments and take all necessary measures to preserve the security and stability of the country," Al-Otaibi said.

Kuwait's Foreign Ministry later confirmed that one person was killed and 63 others injured in the attacks. The strikes also damaged critical infrastructure, including diplomatic facilities. Following the attack, Kuwait's Public Authority for Civil Aviation temporarily suspended air traffic and rerouted flights to alternative airports.

Meanwhile, the General Command of the Bahrain Defence Forceaccused Iran of continuing a systematic hostile campaign through missile and drone attacks targeting civilian locations in Bahrain. It said Bahrain's air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed three missiles and several drones.

The force stated that all military units were operating at the highest levels of readiness and urged residents to avoid suspicious objects or debris resulting from the attacks and report them immediately to authorities. It emphasized that deliberate attacks on civilian sites and private property constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

One Indian killed in attacks

India also condemned the strike on Kuwait International Airport, confirming that an Indian national was killed and several others were injured in the incident.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait City expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and said it was coordinating with local authorities to provide assistance. India's Ministry of External Affairs later said several Indians were among those injured.

"Since the onset of the conflict in West Asia, we have strongly urged that civilian population and civilian infrastructure must not be targeted. We again call upon parties to cease such attacks," the ministry said, adding that Indian missions across the region remain on alert and are actively assisting Indian nationals.

Officials familiar with the matter said the deceased Indian was employed at the airport. Kuwait hosts more than one million Indians, making them the country's largest expatriate community.

The latest casualty brings the number of Indians killed since the escalation of the West Asia conflict to 10. Earlier incidents included the deaths of Indian nationals in attacks in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, and on commercial vessels operating in the region. One Indian citizen has also been reported missing.

The attacks drew widespread condemnation from the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as from Jordan and Lebanon. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the strikes were carried out in retaliation for an air strike on its facilities on Qeshm Island, further intensifying tensions across the Gulf region.
