Cricket Gully | June 4, 2026 3:44 AM CST

Barely hours after the IPL 2026 final ended on Sunday night Gujarat Titans endured a scary episode when their team bus caught fire on its way from the Narendra Modi Stadium to the team hotel in Ahmedabad.

The fire which is believed to have originated from a short circuit occurred shortly after the team had left the stadium following their five wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the summit clash. No casualties or injuries have been reported as all the players coaches and support staff safely alighted the vehicle.

The team management and emergency services responded promptly and ensured that the situation was brought under control. The incident, however added to the disappointment of a rather grim night for the Titans who failed to win their second IPL title.

Players safe after team bus catches fire

As reported by many the fire broke out during the travel back to the hotel after the game. As soon as the incident occurred the players and staff members of the team got out of the bus immediately.

The players and staff were stranded at one place for almost an hour until the alternative arrangement for their travel was made and they all reached their hotel safe and sound. There was no injury reported at all in the bus fire which luckily didn't turn into a major incident.

The bus fire was definitely one of the major headlines that followed after Gujarat Titans had lost the final match of the IPL 2026 and had to settle for the runner-up trophy after not being able to win the second IPL title.

Solanki refutes fatigue allegations for losing the final

Gujarat Titans played the final game on the back of a hectic schedule which saw them travelling throughout the playoffs. From Dharamsala the team reached Mullanpur and played qualifier 2 on 29th May against Rajasthan Royals. They flew from Mullanpur to Ahmedabad but there was a delay in flight due to weather issues in Mullanpur and they finally reached the city on Saturday evening and played the final match on Sunday evening.

Vikram Solanki said in the post match presentation :

" Even though the travelling was hectic and tiring Gujarat Titans  Director of Cricket, Vikram Solanki refuted the fatigue allegations from the final match I don't want to take away from the fact that RCB have won by simply saying that we have had this number of games in these short days and we're fatigued and that's not really what we're about."

Gujarat Titans registered their lowest IPL score after they were restricted to just 155 runs for 8 wickets in the final match which was chased down by Royal Challengers Bengaluru easily.

he further added :

"Admittedly it was a below-par total, but they showed great fight to try and defend it. We might make an assessment of what we might have done differently; that's a given. But I think you've got to accept that the opposition sometimes play well as well,"

Even though Gujarat Titans failed to make a comeback in the final match of the IPL 2026 the biggest relief for the franchise was that no one was injured in the bus fire incident after the loss of the final game.
