Arsenal are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing a highly rated youngster to fill the potential gap left by one of their brightest prospects.
While the current focus for Mikel Arteta’s side remains firmly on the thrilling conclusion of the Premier League season and their pursuit of a first league title in more than 20 years, planning for the future is already underway at the Emirates Stadium.
Like all major clubs, Arsenal are constantly on the lookout for emerging talents, and recent reports suggest they may have found one.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for 18-year-old winger Lucca Marques from Sao Paulo, who has been turning heads with his performances in Brazil.
According to a report by the German publication BILD, Arsenal are currently ahead of Borussia Dortmund in their bid to sign the promising teenager.
Lucca is contracted with Sao Paulo until 2028, which means the Brazilian club could demand a substantial transfer fee to let him go.
Borussia Dortmund reportedly view the youngster as a player who could follow the development path of several stars who rose to prominence at Signal Iduna Park, including Ousmane Dembele, Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho.
Reports also claim that “other European clubs” are keeping tabs on Lucca, which could intensify the competition for his signature.
The young winger already holds the distinction of being the youngest player to ever make an appearance for Sao Paulo and recently scored his first goal in the Copa Libertadores this season.
Meanwhile, BBC Sport’s senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel has reported that one of Arsenal’s most exciting academy products, Ethan Nwaneri, could be on his way out of the club this summer.
Nwaneri, along with fellow Hale End graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly, is reportedly up for sale as the club aim to balance last summer’s heavy spending with ‘pure profit’ sales during the upcoming transfer window.
Additionally, Arsenal are said to be open to offers for Gabriel Martinelli, who has managed only one league goal so far this season.
Arsenal are set to host Bournemouth this weekend as Premier League action resumes at the Emirates Stadium.
