Manchester United Women ended their season on a disappointing note after what had initially looked like a promising campaign.

The Red Devils began the year strongly, advancing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they narrowly lost to Bayern Munich.

They also made history by reaching their first-ever League Cup final, though they were ultimately defeated by Chelsea.

Marc Skinner’s side struggled towards the end of the season, managing to win only one of their last ten matches. As a result, serious doubts have emerged regarding the manager’s position at the club.

For Manchester United Women to return to European competitions next season and challenge for major honours, significant reinforcements will be necessary. Reports suggest they are close to finalising a deal for Spanish full-back Andrea Medina.

However, speculation continues to grow around the futures of several key players in the squad.

It has been claimed that United are open to selling Norwegian forward Elisabeth Terland during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Additionally, recent reports indicate that the club has received two transfer bids from the United States for striker Melvine Malard.

Adding to the uncertainty, The Guardian has reported comments from Ella Toone that have cast doubt on her long-term commitment to the club.

Toone, who joined Manchester United Women in their inaugural 2018 season, has made 213 appearances and scored 64 goals for the team.

Despite her impressive record, her influence has waned recently, with Jess Park emerging as a key player in the side.

Toone endured a challenging campaign hampered by injuries, managing just three goals in 25 matches over the course of the season.

Speaking while on international duty with the England national team, Toone said, “I have a year left. Obviously, it’s now time to talk. I just know I have got to make a decision on what’s best for me. I’m at England right now and focusing on two big games coming up – Spain and Ukraine. Then I’ve got a summer off; I’m getting married and going on a hen do. I’m going to enjoy these things. And then I’m going to get my head screwed on, work hard in pre-season and go from there. Right now, I’m a Manchester United player.”

Reflecting on the team’s overall performance this season, she added, “We had a very good run in the Champions League, for our first time being in it as well. We should be really proud of how far we went in that competition. Then on the other side, we want to be winning trophies, we want to be competing for the league, and I feel like there were parts of this season where we dropped points that we probably shouldn’t have, so there’s a lot to work on.”

Toone’s remarks have left fans anxious about her future, as Manchester United Women prepare for what could be a pivotal summer both on and off the pitch.
