Manchester United have completed their first signing of the summer and are actively pursuing more reinforcements.
The Red Devils have finalised a deal worth an initial £35 million with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson, while INEOS remains keen to bring in two additional midfielders to replace Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte, who are set to depart.
The incoming Brazilian is viewed more as a valuable market addition rather than a direct substitute for Casemiro.
The club’s co-owners are reportedly eager to secure a proven Premier League performer, which explains their pursuit of either Elliot Anderson or Sandro Tonali.
However, the Nottingham Forest midfielder is believed to be favouring a move to Manchester City, while Tonali’s high transfer fee and salary expectations have complicated negotiations.
As a result, the 20-time English champions have broadened their search, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott emerging as a serious candidate.
Michael Carrick is said to admire the 22-year-old’s versatility across midfield. United have already held discreet talks with Bournemouth regarding a possible transfer, though the Cherries are determined to secure the England international on a new long-term contract.
At present, the former Bristol City star appears reluctant to commit to fresh terms, especially with strong interest from Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa.
While Bournemouth would prefer to keep their midfield standout, reports suggest that the club could be forced to consider a sale if Scott refuses to extend his deal, which currently runs until 2028.
Nevertheless, the South Coast side will only entertain offers starting from £60 million.
According to reports, “As the summer transfer window gains momentum, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott continues to attract attention from top Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.
“The 22-year-old, born in Guernsey, has impressed this season, playing a key role in Bournemouth’s qualification for European competition and earning a provisional call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup, though he did not make the final cut.
“The club have presented him with an improved contract offer to secure his future, but Scott has yet to respond positively, showing little desire to commit at this stage.
“With strong interest from elite clubs complicating discussions, his future remains uncertain. Bournemouth, who value him at £60 million or higher and have him tied down until 2028, will only consider a sale if a substantial bid arrives.”
Alex Scott boasts excellent stamina, close control in tight areas, and tactical intelligence in pressing — attributes that align perfectly with Carrick’s vision for his midfield setup.
It remains to be seen whether INEOS will make a decisive move for Bournemouth’s No. 8 this summer.
