The Paraguay national football team has officially announced the list of players who will represent the country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The announcement was made through the official Instagram account of the Paraguay national team on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
Head coach Gustavo Alfaro has selected 26 players to compete at the World Cup.
One of the main highlights of the squad is the inclusion of Miguel Almiron, the former Newcastle United player, who is expected to lead the attacking line alongside Julio Enciso and Antonio Sanabria.
In midfield, Paraguay boasts a strong lineup featuring Diego Gomez, Damian Bobadilla, Andres Cubas, and Matias Galarza, making this area one of the team’s greatest strengths.
The captain’s armband has been entrusted to Palmeiras defender Gustavo Gomez.
At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Paraguay has been drawn into Group D along with the United States, Australia, and Turkey.
Technological Advancements in Football
The advancement of technology in football, especially at the World Cup, has brought about significant changes to how matches are officiated.
According to Arman Binafsihi, the Deputy Head of Oranje Indonesia, in an interview on Tribunnews YouTube (Sunday, 31 May 2026), the introduction of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) and goal-line technology, first implemented at the 2014 World Cup, has greatly assisted referees in making more accurate decisions.
“Yes, from a technological standpoint, the presence of VAR and goal-line technology that started at the World Cup has really helped make the game fairer,” said Arman Binafsihi.
“It makes decisions more honest and fair, even though technology cannot completely eliminate all controversies, at least it helps validate decisions and makes them more accurate on the pitch.”
“With these technologies, football has definitely become better, more enjoyable, and fairer to play. In my opinion, it really encourages fair play,” he added.
