Respected football journalist Andy Mitten has shared an important update regarding the future of Manchester United’s young goalkeeper, Radek Vitek, ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Vitek had an outstanding 2025/26 campaign while on loan at Bristol City, having joined the Championship side last summer from Manchester United.
Initially brought in as a temporary replacement for the injured Max O’Leary, Vitek made an immediate impact with a series of impressive performances. His consistency between the posts helped him retain his spot in the starting lineup even after O’Leary recovered from injury.
The Czech Republic youth international quickly became a fan favourite at Ashton Gate, with supporters regularly chanting his name. During his loan spell, the 22-year-old made 41 appearances in the Championship and managed to keep 12 clean sheets.
According to reports covered by The Peoples Person, Bristol City are eager to retain Vitek’s services permanently. The club reportedly considers securing his transfer as their main objective for the summer. However, his strong performances have also drawn the attention of Premier League newcomers Coventry City.
Despite the growing interest, Vitek has previously expressed his ambition to return to Manchester United and compete with Senne Lammens for a starting role at Old Trafford.
However, if Andy Mitten’s latest comments are accurate, that opportunity might not materialise. Speaking on the United We Stand YouTube channel, Mitten suggested that Manchester United could be in the market for another goalkeeper this summer.
He explained, “Also, an experienced goalkeeper to back up, help and assist Senne Lammens.” He further added, “And people will say, ‘What about Radek [Vitek] who’s been at Bristol City?’ I would expect him to be sold.”
Mitten did, however, keep the door open for uncertainty, noting, “But I might be wrong there…I speak to lots of different people, don’t I?”
Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation appears set for change, with the club reportedly open to selling Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir also expected to depart amid interest from the Turkish Super Lig. Meanwhile, veteran shot-stopper Tom Heaton is likely to be offered a contract extension to remain at the club.
Vitek’s next move will likely depend on how United’s summer transfer plans evolve, but for now, it appears that his future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
