Morgan Rogers ‘could join Barcelona or Real Madrid’, while Aston Villa cautioned against £20m pursuit of Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus

Aston Villa’s rising star Morgan Rogers has reportedly attracted interest from European giants Barcelona and Real Madrid following a series of impressive performances in the Premier League. As the 23-year-old continues to enhance his reputation, Unai Emery’s squad has also been urged to reconsider a potential £20 million move for Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus, despite the Brazilian’s glittering record.

European heavyweights eye Morgan Rogers

Rogers’ rapid ascent has drawn attention from top clubs across Europe, with former Villa midfielder Andy Townsend highlighting that the young forward has the quality to feature for the biggest teams in the world. Since joining Aston Villa, Rogers has impressed with his strength and adaptability, attributes that have made him a target for elite sides.

“I genuinely believe he’s the kind of player who could play for any top club,” Townsend told OLBG. “He could go to Barcelona, Real Madrid — anywhere, really, because there are very few players like him. It wasn’t his best individual season for Aston Villa, but he still made a big impact.” These comments coincide with reports that Rogers has also caught the attention of Premier League champions Arsenal, who are seeking to add depth to their attack.

Thomas Tuchel’s influence and potential PSG interest

Rogers’ future could be shaped significantly by his performances on the international stage. With Thomas Tuchel now leading England into the 2026 World Cup, a strong tournament showing could dramatically increase Rogers’ market value, potentially sparking interest from clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain.

“What will really define Morgan’s summer is how he performs with England. Clearly, Thomas Tuchel recognises his talent,” Townsend explained. “If Rogers shines this summer, it will be very hard for Aston Villa to reject substantial offers.”

He added, “Rogers moving to PSG? Being part of a young and ambitious group like that would be exciting. That squad could stay together for the next two or three years, so joining them would be an excellent opportunity.”

Unai Emery warned about Gabriel Jesus pursuit

While Rogers may be on the radar of major European clubs, Villa themselves have been linked with a move for Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus as they aim to bolster their attacking options. However, Townsend has cautioned that signing the Brazilian international — a five-time Premier League champion with Manchester City and Arsenal — could be risky due to his ongoing injury issues.

“I personally don’t see Gabriel Jesus joining Aston Villa,” Townsend said. “At that price, many clubs will be interested, but he’s had quite a few injury problems. Villa must be extremely careful with their spending. I’ve always admired Jesus for his work ethic and the way he leads the line, but injuries have disrupted his career. For Villa, that’s a real concern.”

Financial considerations and the Ollie Watkins factor

While a £20 million ($27m) fee for a player of Jesus’ calibre seems like a bargain, any deal would likely depend on Aston Villa receiving a major offer for their star striker, Ollie Watkins. Without a significant sale, committing that sum to a player with a history of fitness problems could prove to be a financial misstep for the Champions League contenders.

“At twenty million pounds, he’s undoubtedly a low-cost option,” Townsend observed. “He’s won league titles with both Arsenal and Manchester City — he knows what it takes. But those injuries are a major question mark. Can you rely on him to play thirty-two games a season? If he only manages twenty appearances, that’s just not enough. A club like Villa needs consistency, so I’m not sure that move would make sense.”
