Electric SUV: To further strengthen its position in the Indian electric vehicle market, Tata Motors is preparing to launch the electric version of its popular 3-row SUV Safari soon. Recently, Tata Safari EV has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time, indicating its imminent launch. The new Safari EV will be the company’s most premium and flagship electric SUV to date. It will be positioned above the Tata Harrier EV and after launch, it will compete with premium electric SUVs like Mahindra’s upcoming XEV 9S.
There will be electric touch in the design
- The overall design of Tata Safari EV will remain as strong and attractive as the existing petrol and diesel models, but many EV-specific changes will be seen in it. The SUV will have a closed grille at the front, newly designed front and rear bumpers and special EV badging.
- A new side step has also been seen in the testing model, which is believed to be specially designed for the electric version. Due to it being an electric powertrain, it will not have an exhaust system. Apart from this, it is also expected to get an advanced rear suspension setup like Harrier EV. In this, bold wheel arches, roof rails, large rear spoiler, sloping windshield and stylish wraparound taillamps will maintain its identity.
Features will be smarter than before
The new Safari EV is being developed on Tata’s new Acti.ev+ platform. The company’s new TIDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer) software will be available in it, which will support many modern features. Features like 540-degree surround-view camera, auto park assist, summon mode, low-speed cruise control and UPI-based in-car payment system can be provided in this SUV. Apart from this, V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) charging technology will also be available, through which the car will be able to charge other electronic devices or other EVs. Support of OTA updates will also be available in it.
Battery and range
According to reports, Tata Safari EV may be offered with 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery pack options. It is likely to get both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options. Once fully charged, it can give a driving range of about 550 to 600 kilometers. However, due to its larger size and higher weight, its range is expected to be slightly lower than the Harrier EV.
Price and launch timeline
Tata Motors may launch Safari EV during the festive season of 2026. Its expected ex-showroom price could start from Rs 22 lakh and go up to Rs 30 lakh. For customers who are looking for a premium, safe and long range 3-row electric SUV, Tata Safari EV can emerge as a very attractive option in the market.
