The political chessboard for the 2027 assembly elections has started in Uttar Pradesh. There is talk in political circles that the camps of two influential leaders of Purvanchal, Dhananjay Singh and Brijesh Singh, may come face to face in the Panchayat elections. Due to this, the political temperature of not only Jaunpur but entire Purvanchal has increased.

According to the discussion, Brijesh Singh is preparing to field his son Siddharth Singh in Jaunpur politics through Panchayat elections. Jaunpur has been considered a strong political stronghold of former MP Dhananjay Singh for a long time. Presently his wife Srikala Reddy is the District Panchayat President, due to which the Dhananjay camp is considered to have a strong hold in the politics of the District Panchayat.

Political preparations started from Badlapur

Siddharth Singh has started a public relations campaign from Badlapur area. He is continuously touring the area and meeting people. In view of the Panchayat elections, his activism is being considered politically important. If sources are to be believed, BJP leader Kripashankar Singh and former MP Kunwar Harivansh Singh are also playing an important role in this political exercise.

After the increasing activism of Siddharth Singh, now the question is being raised in political circles whether Brijesh Singh’s camp will be able to challenge the influence of Dhananjay Singh in Jaunpur.

Dhananjay Singh has been MLA and MP twice

Dhananjay Singh has been MLA twice from Malhani assembly seat of Jaunpur. Apart from this, in the year 2009, he had the distinction of reaching the Parliament by winning the election from Jaunpur Lok Sabha seat.

He is considered to have a strong support base in Jaunpur and surrounding areas. According to political experts, his organizational hold and network of supporters at the local level is influential even today. In the year 2021, his wife Srikala Reddy was elected District Panchayat President, after which the position of his camp in District Panchayat politics got further strengthened.

Brijesh Singh family has also had influence

Brijesh Singh was elected as an independent MLC from Varanasi-Chandauli region in the year 2016. Earlier in the year 2012, he had contested elections from Sayadaraja assembly seat of Chandauli. His family is considered to have a long-standing influence on the Legislative Council seat of Varanasi. In the year 2022, his wife Annapurna Singh was also elected as an independent MLC from Varanasi-Chandauli region. Now it is believed that Brijesh Singh wants to expand his influence in Purvanchal by giving his son Siddharth Singh a bigger role in politics.

Panchayat elections will decide future equations

Political analysts believe that Panchayat elections are definitely local body elections but its results decide the direction of future politics. The effect of control over District Panchayat is visible till the assembly elections. This is the reason why the possible Dhananjay Singh vs Brijesh Singh contest in Jaunpur is being seen not just as a Panchayat election but as a fight for political supremacy in Purvanchal.

According to sources, BJP leadership is also keeping an eye on the changing political equations of Jaunpur and Purvanchal. The party is currently assessing the political activities of both the camps. The equations formed after the Panchayat elections can also play an important role in the 2027 assembly elections.

At present, no candidate has been officially announced but the activism of Siddharth Singh and the strong political base of Dhananjay Singh have heated up the politics of Jaunpur. It will be clear in the coming months whether this discussion turns into reality or not, but it is certain that this possible contest has already created a stir in the politics of Purvanchal.
