Gujarat: CNG bus catches fire after collision between two government buses in Surat, 8 passengers killed

There was a massive collision between two government buses of Gujarat and Maharashtra on Tuesday near Uva village in Bardoli of Surat district in Gujarat, after which the CNG bus suddenly caught fire and overturned. At least eight passengers died in the accident while many passengers were seriously injured. The number of deaths is expected to increase.

According to the information received, a tanker had already overturned on the road near Uva village of Bardoli. While trying to save the overturned tanker, the driver of the government bus coming from behind lost control of his steering. Due to loss of control, the bus went to the wrong side and collided directly with another passing Maharashtra government bus coming from the front.

The collision between the two buses was so strong that the bus overturned on the road. Since the accident bus was running on CNG, it caught fire as soon as it collided. As soon as the news of the accident was received, there was chaos in the surrounding area. As soon as information about the incident was received, teams of Bardoli Fire Department and Bardoli Town Police immediately reached the spot. The fire brigade personnel brought the fire in the bus under control after a lot of effort.

By the time the last news was received, eight passengers had died. The death toll is expected to increase further. Many injured passengers have been immediately admitted to a nearby hospital, where they are being given intensive treatment.

At present, relief and rescue work is going on war footing at the accident site. The police have started further legal action to maintain smooth traffic flow on the road and to investigate the exact cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the Surat accident. He expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. It has also been announced to provide ex-gratia amount from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

Ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased

The Prime Minister announced that an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh will be given from PMNRF to the next of kin of each person who lost his life in the accident. At the same time, financial assistance of Rs 50,000 will be provided to the injured.
