Pakistan’s ODI skipper dismissed Alex Carey on the first ball of the match. The Aussie batter tried to play a cut shot, but the ball hit the stumps after taking an inside edge of the bat. Afridi became the third Pakistan captain to take a wicket on the first ball in a fifty-over contest.

Earlier, Akram got rid of Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower in 1993, and Waqar Younis dismissed England’s Marcus Trescothick in 2001.

Australia were restricted to 231 for 9 in 50 overs, with Josh Inglis (51), Cameron Green (53), Matt Renshaw (43) and Oliver Peake (31) making important contributions.

Overall, Afridi took three wickets while Haris Rauf, Arafat Minhas and Abrar Ahmed picked up two scalps each.
