Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 title. RCB achieved the distinction of becoming IPL champion for the second consecutive time by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by 5 wickets in the final match played in Ahmedabad on Sunday (31). RCB players and its fans are immersed in the celebration of this victory. Meanwhile, IPL has taken major action against RCB finisher Tim David. Tim David has been banned for one IPL match.
Why was the action taken against Tim David?
IPL said in its statement that Tim David had thrown an ice bag towards umpire Nitin Menon. He has been fined 50 percent of his match fee. Besides, he was also given two demerit points. This fine has been imposed on Tim David for violation of Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct prescribed for players and team officials. According to the statement, the incident occurred after the fall of wickets in the 10th over during GT’s batting.
Tim David has been found guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This article deals with throwing the ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) in an unfair or dangerous manner at a player, team official, umpire, match referee or any other third person during a match. Tim David has pleaded guilty.
Tim David will not play the first match next year
Australian player Tim David Key violated Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for the third time this season. He forcibly checked the ball during the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on 12 April, due to which he was fined 25 percent of his match fee and given 1 demerit point. After this, when the teams of RCB and MI once again faced each other on May 10, Tim David showed the middle finger from the dugout.
For this act, he was fined 1% of his match fee and given 2 demerit points. Now, for throwing an ice bag at the umpire in the final, his total demerit points have gone up to 5, due to which he has been banned for 1 IPL match. He will not be able to play the first match of RCB or whichever franchise he plays for in IPL 2027.
Did Tim David do this during the chaos?
In the title match, GT, who came to bat first after losing the toss, lost 3 wickets in 8 overs. Captain Shubhman Gill, Sai Sudarshan and Nishant Sindhu had returned to the pavilion. After this, Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar were busy handling the innings. In the 10th over, Sundar pulled the ball bowled by Jacob Duffy but the contact between the ball and the bat was not good. The ball pitched towards deep fine leg.
Substitute fielder Jordan Cox, standing at deep fine leg, ran forward and completed the catch with both hands. However, the third umpire saw in the replay that some part of the ball stuck in Cox’s fingers was touching the ground. He gave not out to Sundar. After this, RCB captain Rajat Patidar was seen arguing with field umpire Nitin Menon. Perhaps Tim David did this during this chaos.
