The woman was part of a tour organized by travel agency Chan Brothers and was descending the monastery when she informed an accompanying guide that she was feeling unwell on May 30, The Straits Times reported.

Immediate assistance, including CPR, was administered on site while emergency arrangements were activated.

She was subsequently transported to Paro Hospital for emergency treatment, which could not save her.

The woman had joined a tour group that departed Singapore on the company’s chartered flight on May 26 and had been taking part in scheduled activities before the incident, Channel News Asia reported.

The tour concluded on May 30, the final day of the itinerary.

A senior Bhutanese official had conveyed condolences from Bhutan’s royal family to the woman’s relatives through her traveling companion, who was also her roommate during the trip.

Perched on a granite cliff approximately 900 meters above the Paro Valley, the monastery is among Bhutan’s most sacred religious sites. It stands at an elevation of about 3,120 meters above sea level, according to information on Chan Brothers’ website.

Chan Brothers said it was deeply saddened by the woman’s death and is providing support to her traveling companion and family members.

The agency added that investigations and a post-mortem examination are ongoing and declined to comment further.
